Approach
In therapy sessions I take a trans-generational approach, meaning that I want to help you learn about the potential patterns of behavior that exist within you, and within your family of origin and your family of choice. I believe understanding these patterns of behavior helps us to better understand how we communicate with others and interact with the world around us. Understanding why we interact in certain ways empowers us to make different choices, and take choose different, healthier paths.
My therapy style leans heavily on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), meaning that I approach problems empathetically, in a way that helps you understand how you experience the world around you, and aids you in communicating your feelings and experiences to your partner, and family.
I often borrow therapy techniques from the world of art therapy, and structural therapy as I find that, especially in family sessions, interactive techniques that help highlight problems in different creative ways can be very effective way to help families communicate with one another.
Background
I moved to the United States in 1983 from England and have subsequently lived in all four corners of this country (Southern California, Boston, and Florida before moving to the PNW). I am a successful coparent to three children, and in my free time enjoying hiking and skiing with my partner in the beautiful Cascade mountains, and whenever possible hitting the road or the skies for an adventure.
