This is a busy time for many therapists and it can be hard to locate a therapist that is a good match for you, and who has availability. When I am full I will always note that on the front page of my website. I always make every effort to respond rapidly to new client inquiries and will return your call or email within 24-48 hours, if not sooner. Please note that email and voicemail may not be secure forms of communication. Please leave a brief message for the purpose of scheduling only. We can discuss more personal information over the phone or in person.

I ask new clients come to therapy weekly initially, while we get to know one another and build our therapeutic alliance. It can take a few sessions to get to the root of problems, and it is very helpful to meet weekly at first so we can make as much progress as possible. I ask clients to identify a consistent weekly time spot that becomes theirs as long as they need it. Once we have established our working relationship we can convert to bi-weekly sessions. I do not offer monthly sessions, but will try and find room where possible for drop-in maintenance visits for established clients.

Emotionally Focused Therapy or EFT, as it’s sometimes called, is an evidence-based therapeutic treatment, based in attachment theory. The theory examines the first relationships you formed in life with your caregivers (your attachment bonds) and views your current relationships and emotional responses bearing in mind those early attachments. You can learn more about EFT here: https://iceeft.com/what-is-eft/

Sometimes referred to as Bowenian Therapy, or Family Systems Theory, this is a school of therapeutic thought that encourages us to explore our emotional relationship to the systems surrounding us. We don’t move through the world in isolate, we are influenced in so many ways by our families of origin, our communities, the culture that surrounds us. Examining problems through a multigenerational lens helps to identify expectations, patterns of behavior, social rules and pressures that impact your daily life and may be the source of unresolved anxieties. The Gottman Method is a specific approach to therapy that is built on the idea of the “Sound Relationship House”. This is a concept of relationships built upon a strong foundation of fondness and admiration, that emphasizes the validation of each partners emotional experience. The Gottman Method has specific couples interventions that are very useful in creating connection, and re-imagining the way couples enter into and resolve conflict. At this time I am trained in level 2 Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

The Gottman Relationship Checkup is a comprehensive online assessment tool that can be very helpful in identifying problem areas for couples. The assessment consists of 480 questions about friendship, intimacy, emotions, conflict, values, and trust, as well as parenting, housework, finances, individual areas of concern, and more. The Gottman Institute charges a fee of $39 for this assessment. There is no additional markup for the service, and I happy to offer this extra service for interested clients.
